What’s On: Introducing the Emerging Artist Residency

UD is thrilled to launch our new Emerging Artist Residency — a dedicated programme designed to champion the next wave of musical talent via complimentary studio access. Our first residents to take over our studios are TobiMary and Loquil

TobiMary

TobiMary is a London-based artist and producer whose ethereal soundscapes blend indie, rock, soul, and electronica. A graduate of UD Music’s Level 4 course, her artistic development has accelerated at breakneck speed. Originally trained as a biochemist, she transitioned into music during the pandemic, teaching herself production and sharing covers online. With a background in piano and cello, and influences ranging from Coldplay and Imogen Heap to Brandy and Lalah Hathaway, Tobi Mary’s expansive vocal range and genre-defying compositions are captivating and unique. Read our Introducing feature by Elsa Monteith to learn more.

Loquil

Emerging from Peckham, London, Loquil is a rapper determined to showcase his raw talent across multiple disciplines. Self-taught in music production, guitar, and piano, he shares his work widely on social media. On tracks like “Take it Slow” and “Mad Things,” Loquil effortlessly shifts between catchy melodies and tight rapping flows. Meanwhile, “Trust These Yutes” and “Bare Antisocial” show his comfort with hard-hitting drill beats while diving deep into his thoughts and experiences. The future for this young talent is limitless, and we’re excited to watch him push past his potential and help revolutionise music as we know it.
