Members Club: Tee Peters

With our new Elevator Membership Programme underway, it’s time to meet the community. First up in our new Members Club series, UD gets to know Tee Peters, artist, brand manager and programme producer

Members Club: Tee Peters

What do you do? I’m a music artist that focuses on creating music that I describe as being either chill, catchy or conscious. I am a solo artist but I also run a live jazz rap band called The Working Class Band and a music brand/collective called Working Szn. The phrase ‘Working Szn’ comes from a goal I made over five years ago which was to cut out distractions – for a season at least – and focus on finding purposeful work.

I’m also a Programme Producer for a music charity. I run a project called Wired4Music which helps other 16-25 year olds who love music like I do, develop and grow in music. Some of the things I do is offer music opportunities like funding/grants, put on events and give 1:1 advice using my experience.

What are you listening to at the moment? I’m listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar… Since he’s currently feuding with Drake, I’ve been reminiscing so much!

Why did you become a UD Member? I’ve always been interested in the events UD put on, so when I was told about the Elevator Programme I knew I had to sign up. After I got married, I realised the importance of having a good environment for work and family etc. Being able to have 12 months of free studio time and access to a community and their events was a opportunity not to be missed.

Plans for the rest of 2024? At the start of the year I said that I want my music to be played in every single restaurant, coffee shop and workspace in the world. So I was really happy to get the news that during January and April, my music was added to the in-store playlist for the burger restaurant Patty & Bun!

This year is all about making steps towards things like that because I am striving for my music to be in-tune with workers all over the world. I believe that other than workspaces, restaurants & coffee shops are secretly where we go to really improve at things like our relationships with others (family, friends, colleagues and strangers), our personal hobbies, startup businesses… If I’m trying to encourage people to work for a season, I want them to be able to have the best music for that purpose, wherever they go to work.

Outside of that, I’m also hoping to curate some of my best live experiences ever. People don’t hear live band’s perform jazz and rap often and I’m trying to really make that accessible to people this year – especially if I can do that through social media and tech.

Finally, my goal is to give my fans – and potential fans – a really personalised experience, full of fun and action. I’m developing my community using my Working Szn newsletter where people are having the opportunity to become a VIP-eters (get it?) where they receive monthly newsletters full of my reflections, updates, giveaways of merch/tickets and my favourite, a group task list board. With this board people can anoymously share one or two of their monthly goals which will be added to a board that other participants can see. If you’re interested, sign up HERE.

Highlight of the year so far?  This year, on the 25th June, I will be performing in virtual reality! I’m excited to be traveling out of London to go to a studio in Bristol where I’ll be performing in my own virtual space for people all over the world. I love live streaming on TikTok and YouTube for example so it’s going to be great doing the next level of that. I’ll basically be a virtual character, performing for other characters. The coolest thing is the show is with Condense Reality who are launching their phone app, so people will be able to experience the show from their fingers! More info HERE.

Interesting fact about you/ your work? My song topics can be so niche and fun that it baffles people. I have various songs written about food or using food as a metaphor for something – ‘Cinnamon Buns, Almond Croissantand ‘Lipton’ are song titles that are currently out. People love them. My online fans are very different to my in-person live show listeners because at my shows people will be buying ‘Almond Croissant’ merch and screaming food names during my performances. It’s really fun. Hopefully we’ll turn that into something big one day.

If you were Mayor of LDN for a day, what would you do/ change? Since a lot of things need some DEEP changes which I don’t think can be done in a day, I’ll keep it simple… London travel might need to be way cheaper!

All my musician friends know the struggle of travelling all over London to get around especially if you aren’t in a cheap enough zone. But also taking car anywhere just feels like a mission if you can drive. Congestion charge and expensive parking has gotta be switched up!
