UD Low Down: Flames Collective x Ed Sheeran @ Lightroom, Kings Cross

Flames Collective took to the streets of Kings Cross last week to celebrate the release of Ed Sheeran’s new album, Play, with Spotify. Along with performing a host of their fave Ed songs, they were joined by the man himself for a stunning performance of ‘Camera‘. Vocalist, Diya Sohi, gives us the low down…

A Full Circle Harmony

The first cover I ever posted online was Ed Sheeran’s Supermarket Flowersfrom Divide. I was thirteen, and I wanted to share my voice through a song I truly loved. Looking back, that moment was pivotal for me- sharing online my passion for music, songwriting, and singing — connecting with people through my voice.

On 16th September 2025, I found myself on stage with Flames Collective and Ed Sheeran in King’s Cross, London, for a Spotify x Lightroom pop-up show celebrating his new album Play. At 3pm, in the glow of the afternoon, I stood in the same room as one of my earliest inspirations — not as a fan in the crowd this time, but as a performer.

Performing ‘Camera’ with Ed Sheeran — a full circle moment.

The Lead-Up

We arrived to perform some of Ed’s biggest and newer songs for his fans — already an incredible opportunity. The setlist included ‘Azizam, ‘Castle on the Hill’, ‘Thinking Out Loud, ‘Don’t, ‘Camera, and ‘The Vow. Our musical director Andy Gilbert gave us beautiful arrangements, and I was grateful to sing lead on ‘Azizamand ‘Castle on the Hill.

The space was intimate, about seventy people, but it felt electric, and the fans’ excitement was contagious.

And then came the surprise: Ed walked on stage, greeted us warmly, and dapped us up before we began singing Cameratogether!

The Performance

From the first note, the energy shifted. Singing alongside Ed was surreal, but more than that, it felt natural — like stepping into a harmony I’d been preparing for since those first guitar covers in my bedroom.

The audience leaned into every song, singing along, filming, and smiling with us. When Ed turned to thank us mid-performance, it reminded me how generosity on stage resonates far beyond the music itself. His presence was humble and magnetic, and the connection between him and his fans was heartfelt and genuine.

Backstage & Beyond

Earlier that afternoon, we’d soundchecked ‘Azizam’ and run through the setlist, making sure every detail was nailed down. Downstairs, Lightroom had created an immersive experience to accompany Play — a space styled like a creative studio, with a couch, guitar, headphones, and framed portraits.

After the show, I spoke with some of the fans who had been in the audience. What touched me the most was how many of them wanted to connect afterwards — not just to talk about Ed, but to listen to our music too. That exchange, from one music lover to another, felt powerful. It reminded me that moments like these ripple outward, creating new relationships and possibilities.

Reflections

Diya representing Flames Collective at the pop up!

For me, this performance was singing music I love, standing beside an artist whose songs shaped me and a generation, and sharing that moment with an audience who gave back so much love.

Ed has always been known for supporting young artists and creating opportunities for others. To experience that firsthand was an honour, and it reinforced in me the belief of the kind of artist I hope to be — someone who uplifts and connects.

Gratitude

This day came together because of so many people:

  • Pamela McCormick MBE, for championing Flames Collective and building spaces where we can shine.
  • Andy Gilbert, for your musical direction and arrangements that always elevate us.
  • Kadian Foster, for keeping everything running seamlessly.
  • And Ed’s team, for their warmth and generosity in welcoming us into the Play experience.
  • And of course, Ed Sheeran, who always connects with his fellow musicians, artists and audience on a personal and sonic level.
The Flames Collective family — grateful for every shared stage.

Looking Ahead

And while moments like these are unforgettable, they’re just the beginning. I’ve got my own music on the way — my debut single is set for release in 2026. Flames Collective have also just announced a Christmas show – join us on 19th December at EartH, Hackney for a night of festive cheer. Tickets are on sale now – click here to bag yours!
