Commissioned as part of East Bank’s 2022 Creative Programme, Flames collaborated with our building partners, East London Dance, on two songs – a cover, ‘My Hood’ by Ray BLK and ‘Breathing’, an original piece created specifically for East Bank.

FLAMES on ‘My Hood’: As defined by Ray BLK herself, ‘My Hood’ is about staying true to yourself and being proud of where you come from. As Flames are based in east London, they felt the song would be fitting to represent them as a choir, and as individuals coming from different backgrounds, which reflects the purpose of the celebration at East Bank. This song evokes a beautiful meaning and an even more powerful message, which Flames gracefully delivered on the night.

Dystopia to Utopia: Reimagining Our Future took place on Sept 22nd, a large-scale outdoor performance fusing dance, music, spoken word and film. Creatively produced by East London Dance in partnership with UD Music, the performance includes an 80 strong cast of community, youth and professional dancers and singers from east London.

The ‘My Hood’ film was projected during the performance, with Flames performing live at the event.

Choreographed by Dannielle ‘Rhimes’ Lecointe and East London Dance, in collaboration with UD Music, the performance marks the finale of East Bank’s 2022 Creative Programme and looks ahead to the opening of East Bank, London’s new cultural quarter in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on September 22, 2022 in London, England.
