Members Club: Onai

With our new Elevator Membership Programme underway, it’s time to meet the community. In our new Members Club series, UD gets to know Onai, a DJ and vibe setter from Ireland who’s now residing in London

Onai

Who are you? My name is Onai I’m a DJ from Ireland now living in London

What do you do? I try to say I do what I love, but I DJ, I get to play music for people and hope they have a good time. My job is to set the vibe.

What are you listening to at the moment? At the moment I’m listening to a lot of edits on SoundCloud and a mix of good R&B and Neo soul. Alex Isley and Madison Ryann Ward are my go to shower artists and then whilst I am working I have a lot of Egnever and NIE on. Kaytranda has just released so I am going to give that drop some time.

Why did you become a UD Member? I needed some change and inspiration. I think I want to be a part of something with people of similar mind and like, to help me advance with where I am within music. I had actually been following UD for a while so when I saw the Elevator Programme opening I thought why not apply.

Plans for the rest of 2024? I have been working quite a lot so I am hoping to get some holiday and family time in, I have a few more summer festivals to do and then big task for me this year is to sort my music collection. I am currently in the process of working on my own DJ event so that will also be a big push for moi.

Highlight of the year so far? My highlight of the year so far – I got to DJ in Japan in February which was crazy and two of my closest friends were there to watch. I also got  to play at Gala Festival just shy of two weeks ago. I played there last year as a DJ competition winner so being invited back this year as a booked DJ on the line was nuts. Born N Bred curated the Cornerstone Stage and I was shooketh to be there with DJs like Emz and Infinite Sounds on the line up.

Interesting fact about you/ your work? For someone whose life is centred a lot around music, I don’t have Spotify

If you were Mayor of LDN for a day, what would you do/ change? I would make sure that everyone had a safe bed to sleep in and food in their fridge. I also would open up a hug bank cause I love a hug and think sometimes it’s all we need. I have been here for about two years and sometime people in London just look like they need a hug.

Anything else you want to add? Everyone needs to listen to Sasha Keable’s new track ‘Hold Up’ – it has me in a choke hold -and tell someone you love them.
