What’s On… Industry Takeover Series: Race and Representation in Black British Visual Music with Nadine Persaud + Edem Wornoo, Wed 16th Sept @ Talent House

Nadine Persaud (Creative Director) and Edem Wornoo (Director) sit down to ask the question the industry keeps dodging: whether Black British visual culture still has room for the music video, or whether the feed’s already won…

Is there still room for the music video, or has the feed already won?

The music video used to be the moment an artist arrived. Now it’s fifteen seconds, cut for the scroll, gone before the sun sets. This seminar is a conversation about what’s actually happening to visual culture in Black British music — who’s still making the case for the long-form image, what the pressure to constantly deliver content is doing to the people making it, and whether the industry’s chase for speed is quietly erasing the craft.

Nadine Persaud brings the receipts. A creative director and photographer who spent years managing projects for both independent British artists and major pop stars, she’s now doing the research most of the industry talks around but never sits down to actually study — a PhD titled, fittingly, Race and Representation in Black British Visual Music.

She’s joined by Edem Wornoo, the director behind Fredo & Dave‘s ‘Money Talks‘ and Wretch 32‘s ‘little BIG Man‘, an 11-minute short film staged like theatre on a London estate. Wornoo calls his own style “street-level fantasy”: bold, aspirational imagery layered onto everyday environments instead of the visual clichés the genre usually reaches for. If anyone’s positioned to say whether that kind of ambition still has room to exist when everything’s built for a nine-second scroll, it’s him.

What we’ll cover

Is there still space for the music video? Edem’s view from behind the camera on where visual storytelling sits in 2026.

The short-form squeeze what the drive for fast, disposable content is doing to the scene and the people making it.

The always-on pressure what it actually costs creatives to be expected to constantly deliver.

A grime history lesson Nadine draws on her own research into Black British music, resistance and representation to show the room where this conversation actually started.

Open floor how you consume visual content vs. how you’d make it, put to the room.

Why now

This isn’t really a session about AI — but it’s impossible to talk about visual culture in 2026 without it in the room, so we will, without letting it swallow the conversation. The real subject is control: who gets to decide how Black British music looks, and whether that’s slipping further from the artist’s hands the faster everything moves.

Who it’s for

Artists, directors, editors and anyone who makes or lives inside visual content around music — plus anyone who’s ever wondered why a video that took two months to make gets nine seconds of someone’s attention.
