UD Low Down: Open Mic @ Talent House

Music producer and UD team assistant Michael Amarteifio reports back from Talent House and our first open mic event…

On the 18th August, the Talent House opened its doors to an array of different artists, ready to showcase their talent, ranging from grime MCs and rappers to R&B singers, as well as people just coming to enjoy good vibes!

This event was hosted by the amazing singer/songwriter Nayana. She introduced the first act of the night, J1 Remz, who blessed the stage performing his two songs, one of which showcased his amazing keyboard skills.

Following him was the talented soulful singer, Vinciane. She graced our ears singing a cover of ‘Steady Love’ by Indie Arie. Wow!  Dan-Dannah, a grime MC who’s featured on Link Up TV’s Pen Game Rap Battle, performed his energetic song ‘Dangerous’, getting the crowd pumped. We then had Angello perform a song which had people singing the chorus with him (“She belongs to the city”). Next up was Hip-Hop rapper/producer Richard Carter. He performed two original songs and blessed the stage with his unique humour and great stage presence. What a performance! We had another fire rapper, Knap, come on to the stage and perform his song. Knap has been making music for many years, also releasing on Link up TV as well as having his own Blackbox. Just before we had a 10-minute break, a versatile artist, Loose, came to perform two songs. He first rapped over Jack Harlow & Drake’s ‘Churchill Down’s’ beat and sang a different vibe for the second song. Talented!

A 10-minute break occurred for people to network, get some drinks and to get ready for more amazing performances.

As people made their way back in and settled down, our incredible host, Nayana, graced the stage with a song of hers. This then segued into the next grime rapper, Patt3rnz, coming to deliver an amazing performance of his own song. Fire! Next up was a rapper named Evad (Dave spelled backwards). He performed his own song and announced that he’ll be dropping his EP very soon. Following this was an amazing artist named Tianna, who performed her single ‘Pressed’ with the crowd singing along with her. Right after, we had Evelyn Eleazar set the mood with an R&B vibe. Amazing voice! Nayana then announced that one more performance was left until the night had come to an end. We then saw Anariii, a multi-genre singer, come with a soulful/funky performance. What a way to end the night!

The open mic on the 18th August was a massive success and we look forward to seeing some more amazing talent on the 1st September for our second open mic event.
