With our Elevator Membership Programme underway, it’s time to meet the community. Next up in UD’s Members Club series, we meet Loquil, an 18 year old rapper coming to an event near you soon…
Who are you? My Name Is Loquil, I am an 18 year old rapper. Being able to write songs helped me a lot when I was going difficult times as a kid. I see my writing and playing as a way to vent my feelings on whatever I’m going through. I try to make music that brings people together cah I think having family is important.
What do you do? I do a lot, I need to do a little less… Right now I rap, sing, play guitar, piano, produce and engineer. I really like getting involved with all aspects of my music so I guess I just ended up doing a bit of everything.
What are you listening to at the moment? Right now I’m listening to MR Morale & the Big Steppers but this week I’ve been listening to Chromakopia by Tyler the Creator.
Why did you become a UD Member?
I like being a member of UD because of the panels and events. I’m able to learn a lot & network with industry professionals. The studios and faculties are perfect for me to be able to create my music.
Plans for the rest of 2024? I’ve got a song, ‘Realistic Goals‘, coming out on the 6th of December so I’m just working on pushing that out. Otherwise I’m focusing on 2025 and how I can keep the momentum going.
Highlight of the year so far? It’s so difficult because this has been a really good year for me musically. But I would say it’s between my final performance at ELAM or my set at B2K Rich Mix. They were both amazing nights where I got to do what I love.
Interesting fact about you/ your work? I write a lot of my lyrics to known instrumentals. Sometimes I write to a metronome then go the studio to complete the songs with other producers. Big up @prod.05 @prodlynx_ what I do wouldn’t be possible without them!
If you were Mayor of LDN for a day, what would you do or change? I’d make bumping TFL legal. TFL moving mad!
Anything else you want to add? I want to inspire people to know that anything is possible. Your circumstances, traumas and mental battles are things you can overcome.
